Guild power

JAN BRESLAUER did not do the homework [“Sure, Your Audience Is Bigger, but Look Out: So Are the Pressures,” Sept. 17]. To say “Playwrights ... do not have a strong union, as do screenwriters” is ludicrous. The Dramatists Guild (playwrights) contract requires that there not be a single change to the playwright’s script without approval of the playwright. The Writers Guild of America (screen and TV writers) can’t even guarantee the original author will get a credit on the finished film, much less approval of changes. I have always considered the Dramatists Guild contract the strongest in show business.
