At least 100 killed as train derails

A passenger train derailed in central Congo and eight cars tumbled off the tracks, killing about 100 people and trapping some passengers in the wreckage, officials said.
The accident occurred late Wednesday when the brakes failed between Ilebo and Kananga, said Medard Ilunga, head of the state railway agency of Congo, formerly known as Zaire. The conductor detached the locomotive and went for help.
