Former leader of Red Army is paroled

A state court in Stuttgart paroled a onetime leader of Germany’s Red Army Faction, a leftist group that attacked law enforcement and business leaders three decades ago.
Brigitte Mohnhaupt, 57, is to leave prison March 27. She was arrested in 1982 and convicted of involvement in nine slayings, including those of West German chief federal prosecutor Siegfried Buback, Dresdner Bank head Juergen Ponto and Hanns-Martin Schleyer, head of the country’s industry federation.
She was given five life sentences for murder and for nonfatal attacks that included a 1981 rocket-propelled-grenade assault on the car of Gen. Frederick Kroesen, then commander of U.S. forces in Europe.
