Wyeth has biggest loss in Prempro drug case

Wyeth was handed its biggest loss so far in a case involving the drug Prempro when a Philadelphia jury found that the menopause treatment helped cause an Ohio woman’s breast cancer and awarded $3 million in damages.
The state court jury deliberated more than two days before also finding that Wyeth “failed to provide an adequate warning” to plaintiff Jennie Nelson about the links between Prempro and breast cancer. Nelson, 67, won a jury verdict in October that later was thrown out.
The verdict is Madison, N.J.-based Wyeth’s third loss in five trials. The firm may appeal the verdict, said Barbara Binis, a lawyer for the company.
