Boy, 17, found dead in his cell at juvenile hall

Authorities on Friday were investigating the apparent suicide of a teenage inmate at Orange County Juvenile Hall. Vicki Mathews, spokeswoman for the Orange County Probation Department, said the 17-year-old boy was found unconscious in his room “in what appeared to be an attempt to end his own life.”
He was taken to UCI Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The incident occurred Thursday and is being investigated by the district attorney’s office.
