Traffic on a heavily traveled bridge spanning San Francisco Bay came to a standstill Tuesday morning after three big rigs crashed, injuring three people.
A medical helicopter airlifted one person suffering major injuries from the scene of the 7 a.m. accident on the San Mateo Bridge, which connects the suburbs east of San Francisco to communities south of the city.
The nature of the injuries was not immediately released.
The California Highway Patrol shut down the entire westbound side of the seven-mile bridge for several hours as crews worked to remove the trucks and clean up debris.
