Police arrested a man early Monday on suspicion of committing the first murder in this city in two years.
Marco Jauregui, 25, was arrested in Milpitas at a relative’s house after he allegedly shot his friend, Rene Escalante, 24, several times as they walked in a park about 12:30 a.m. Sunday, police spokeswoman Liz Wylie said. The two were longtime friends, and the motive for the shooting was unclear, Wylie said.
The killing was the first homicide the city has recorded since 2005.
