Communist-era border troops killed 22 Bulgarians and at least two East Germans who tried to get to the West by sneaking across Bulgaria’s border during the Cold War.
Ekaterina Boncheva, a member of a panel named by parliament to investigate secret police files, said documents detailed cases in 1974 and 1988 in which citizens of Communist East Germany were killed.
The archives also showed 22 Bulgarians were shot and killed while trying to escape to Greece or Turkey between 1964 and 1967, Boncheva said.
