Stanford stops California

PALO ALTO -- Anthony Goods scored 20 points and Brook Lopez added 15 points and nine rebounds in No. 9 Stanford’s 79-69 victory over California on Sunday night, keeping the Cardinal in the race for the Pacific 10 Conference title with its ninth victory in 10 games.
Stanford, 22-4 overall and 11-3 in the Pac-10, improved to 14-1 at Maples Pavilion with another methodical win in which it maintained a small lead throughout the second half. The Cardinal is one game behind UCLA in the conference.
Lawrence Hill scored only nine points for Stanford, but the junior forward made a big basket and three free throws in a 10-2 run after Cal had closed to within 64-62 with 4:47 left.
Ryan Anderson had 15 points for Cal (15-10, 6-8).
