A look at upcoming events:
Today
Bus fare hike: A public hearing on proposed fare increases will be held during the Orange County Transportation Authority Board of Directors meeting. Under the proposal, regular fares would increase from $1.25 to $1.50, a day pass would go from $3 to $4 and a 30-day pass would rise from $45 to $55.
Tuesday
Carona: Final jury selection and possibly opening statements are set in the public corruption trial of former Orange County Sheriff Michael S. Carona and attorney Debra Hoffman.
Debate: State Sen. Mark-Ridley Thomas (D-Los Angeles) and Los Angeles City Councilman Bernard C. Parks will face off at the County Supervisor Candidates’ Forum to discuss goals and an overall vision for the county. At Thomas A. Edison Middle School.
Wednesday
Breakwater: Long Beach will hold the second of three public workshops on the future of the breakwater, including a presentation describing the overall process and purpose of the study.
Friday
Exhibit: The Huntington Library will preview an exhibit, “Beautiful Science: Ideas That Changed the World,” which examines great achievements in science from Ptolemy to Copernicus and Newton to Einstein. The exhibit will open to the public Saturday.
Saturday
Festival: The Los Angeles International Tamale Festival will continue, with tamale cooking and eating contests, business and nonprofit information booths and entertainment. At MacArthur Park.
