at Colorado 5, Seattle 3: Chris Iannetta ended a tie with a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning and the Rockies ran their winning streak to 10 games. Clint Barmes also drove in a run with a fly ball in a two-run ninth inning. The Rockies are within a victory of matching the franchise record of 11 consecutive victories set Sept. 16-27, 2007.
at San Francisco 5, Oakland 2: Randy Johnson limited the A’s to four hits over seven strong innings to earn his 301st victory, Juan Uribe drove in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning and the Giants moved five games above .500 for the first time since 2004.
New York Mets 6, at New York Yankees 2: Injury fill-in Fernando Nieve (1-0) earned his first major league victory in three years, Omir Santos drove in three runs and Gary Sheffield hit a home run for the second consecutive game for the Mets.
Chicago White Sox 7, at Milwaukee 1: Jose Contreras (2-5) gave up two hits and held the Brewers scoreless over eight innings. Since returning from a monthlong stint in the minors, Contreras has given up three hits in 16 scoreless innings.
St. Louis 3, at Cleveland 1: Albert Pujols hit two home runs, his 27th multihomer game and fourth this season. Pujols’ first home run was his 1,600th hit in 1,301 games.
Minnesota 2, at Chicago Cubs 0: Rookie Anthony Swarzak scattered four hits over seven innings, Jason Kubel hit a home run and the Twins hung on to win after the Cubs threatened in the ninth inning.
Florida 6, at Toronto 5: Cody Ross hit a home run and two doubles, Jeremy Hermida also hit a home run and the Marlins improved to 16-4 all-time against the Blue Jays.
at Kansas City 7, Cincinnati 4: Willie Bloomquist had three hits and drove in three runs, Billy Butler had three hits and drove in two runs and Kyle Davies (3-6) picked up his first victory since April 30.
at Baltimore 8, Atlanta 4: Brian Roberts had four hits, including a double that highlighted a six-run rally in the seventh inning.
at Tampa Bay 8, Washington 3: Ben Zobrist and Gabe Gross each hit a home run in a seven-run sixth inning. Carlos Pena hit his 20th home run for the Rays.
at Pittsburgh 9, Detroit 3: Freddy Sanchez hit a grand slam and Adam LaRoche hit a solo home run to back up Zach Duke (7-4), who won for the fourth time in his last five decisions.
Houston 6, at Arizona 4: Lance Berkman hit his 300th home run moments after Miguel Tejada drove in a run for the Astros with his 2,000th hit.
at Angels 9, San Diego 1: Torii Hunter hit three consecutive solo home runs, his first three-homer game in the majors.
Dodgers 3, at Texas 1: The Dodgers scored immediately after a 1-hour-41-minute delay because of a power outage, and Matt Kemp later hit a two-run home run.
