GAME OF THE DAY
BASEBALL PREVIEW
No. 13 Valencia West Ranch (19-4, 10-1) at No. 23 Valencia (16-6, 9-2)
Today at 3 p.m.
Why it matters: West Ranch, coached by former USC player Casey Burrill, could clinch its first Foothill League championship in its third year in existence with a two-game sweep of the Vikings this week. Left-hander Trevor Fredrickson (8-1) will get the start today on a Valencia field that hasn’t been good to pitchers. But West Ranch has plenty of top hitters, including Jake Bernards (.500 average) and Allen Sarkissian (.478). Valencia has come on strong behind freshman third baseman Trey Williams (.432). Oregon-bound Dylan Jones is hitting .386 for West Ranch, ranked No. 1 by the coaches in the Southern Section Division I poll.

TUESDAY SOFTBALL RESULT
King-Drew 15, Crenshaw 10
Top contributors: King-Drew’s Emerald Leiataua went three for four with a three-run homer, and Shannon Colquitt and Sheneice McGee homered. For Crenshaw, Brittnei Price went four for four with a homer and a double, and Nicole Williams hit two homers.
The scoop: King-Drew rallied from a 10-8, sixth-inning deficit by scoring seven runs to pull away for the victory.
Why it matters: In its first year in the Coliseum League, King-Drew dethroned the defending champion and claimed home-field advantage in the first round of the City Section playoffs.
Records: King-Drew 20-2, 12-0; Crenshaw 11-9, 10-2.
