Saints’ Reggie Bush has a broken leg

New Orleans Saints running back Reggie Bush has a broken right fibula, which is not expected to be season ending, though the injury could sideline him about six weeks.
The Saints had the day off after returning early in the morning from their 25-22 Monday night victory at San Francisco. Saints spokesman Greg Bensel said there were no planned updates on Bush’s injury.
The bone in Bush’s lower right leg was broken when he was trying to recover his muffed punt with 6:58 remaining. He had trouble catching the ball at windy Candlestick Park and was injured during the scrum after he dove for the ball and players landed on him.
“Last second it kind of shifted a little bit, just enough for me to drop it,” he said. “I tried to recover it and somebody took my leg out. I don’t know who it was, what happened or how it happened. I just know my leg got taken out. That’s it.”
Steelers’ Dixon to have surgery
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dennis Dixon will have left knee surgery today and is out indefinitely, meaning Byron Leftwich or Charlie Batch will start Sunday at Tampa Bay.
Dixon was hurt in the first half of a 19-11 victory at Tennessee on Sunday, with Batch playing most of the final three quarters — his most extensive game action since 2007. Leftwich, expected to start during Ben Roethlisberger’s four-game suspension, sat out the first two games with a sprained left knee injured in the final exhibition game.
Pittsburgh Coach Mike Tomlin said Batch is currently the most likely starter for Sunday because he is the lone quarterback who has proved he’s healthy.
“You’ve got to say Charlie’s in the pole position because he’s got a clean bill of health,” Tomlin said.
Broncos mourn McKinley
Denver Broncos Coach Josh McDaniels said in a tearful news conference that nobody in the organization saw any hint that wide receiver Kenny McKinley was suicidal before he took his life.
“We’ve all seen him recently. He’s been the same person every time we see him. Liked junk food and chips and things like that,” McDaniels said. “He was in the cafeteria, or in the training room, when we were seeing him the last so many weeks here. Nothing that would alarm us to anything like this.”
McKinley’s body was discovered by a female friend Monday afternoon when she returned to his Centennial home less than four miles from the team’s headquarters after running an errand with his young son, Keon.
Arapahoe County Coroner Michael Dobersen said Tuesday that McKinley, 23, died of a gunshot wound to the head. He said a preliminary investigation “suggests the wound to be self-inflicted.”
Jets’ Edwards is arrested
New York Jets wide receiver Braylon Edwards was arrested in Manhattan on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
Edwards was pulled over on the west side of Manhattan about 5:15 a.m. EDT because his vehicle had excessive tinting on its windows, and officers noticed a strong smell of alcohol, said the official, who was not authorized to speak about the case and spoke on condition of anonymity.
Edwards was given a breath test at the scene and another at a police station. His blood alcohol level was .16, twice the legal limit, officials said.
