Univision Communications Inc. has tapped the head of the CBS News Investigative Unit to oversee the Spanish broadcaster’s partnership with ABC News.
Keith Summa, who had been with CBS News for five years, will serve as vice president of news partnerships for Univision. In that role, he will serve as Univision’s point person with ABC News on the news network the two companies are planning on launching next year.
Univision said Summa will “expand the culture of investigative and enterprise reporting in both organizations.” He will report to Isaac Lee, the president of Univision news.
The new English-language channel does not have an official debut date as of yet. With Latinos accounting for more than 15% of the country’s population, big media companies are eager to tap into that market. Last week ,News Corp. launched MundoFox, a Spanish-language network.
Summa has long ties to ABC News. He spent 15 years as a producer there and worked closely with late “World News Tonight” anchor Peter Jennings on documentary programs.
