Studio execs and Gov. Jerry Brown joined the actors who play the Weasley twins in the “Harry Potter” films and a group of hardcore Potter fans in hoisting mugs of Butterbeer on Tuesday to celebrate the announcement that the Wizarding World of Harry Potter will be opening at Universal Studios Hollywood. The attraction has been a blockbuster success for the theme park in Orlando, so it makes sense to transpose it to the West Coast. The park renovation will include construction of Hogwarts Castle and will generate an estimated 1,000 jobs. (Al Seib / Los Angeles Times)
Actor Harry Morgan, who had the good fortune to star in two seminal TV series (“Dragnet” and “MASH”), died on Wednesday at age 96 after a bout with pneumonia. Though Morgan was best known for playing Col. Sherman T. Potter on “MASH,” he didn’t get the role until he was 60 years old and had already starred in numerous theatrical productions and more than 50 movies. (Lennox McLendon / Associated Press)
Los Angeles is well represented in the next group of Rock and’ Roll Hall of Fame inductees, announced Tuesday. Guns N’ Roses and Red Hot Chili Peppers, two of the biggest bands to come out of the Southland in last three decades, will be honored by the organization in a ceremony next year. Other inductees include Beastie Boys, Donovan, Laura Nyro, the Small Faces and Don Kirshner. Now, the question everyone wants answered: Will GNR frontman Axl Rose show up? And who will join him?
