Is Saoirse Ronan the next Bella Swan? Sorta, but not really. The “Hanna” star just landed the role of Melanie in “The Host,” based on Stephenie Meyer’s 2008 sci-fi novel. She’ll play a Bella-type 20-year-old whose mind is slowly being taken over by an alien named Wanderer. The twist is that Melanie is fighting off the invasion with thoughts of her crush, Jared, but Wanderer starts to fall for him too. Leave it to Meyer to include a juicy love triangle. Mel Gibson’s ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva dropped her domestic violence claim against the actor on Wednesday. The surprise move lifted the protective order from the former couple’s paternity case and allows them meet and talk face-to-face without a third party present. The paternity case stemmed from a January 2010 altercation in which Grigorieva claimed Gibson punched her in the face and verbally abused her. Criminal charges still remain, but Gibson’s attorneys are attempting to get the criminal case expunged from his record after his no-contest plea last month. Lindsay Lohan’s case has taken a new direction since the court reduced her charge from a felony to a misdemeanor in the alleged theft of a $2,500 necklace from a Venice boutique. She still has 120 days of jail time and 480 hours of community service to complete for violating her probation, but she may be able to end the ordeal by pleading no-contest to the actual charges.
