Films of the UK Film Council
The British government has announced plans to abolish the UK Film Council, which provides millions of pounds annually to British-based independent productions. In a surprise announcement in July, Secretary Jeremy Hunt -- whose Department for Culture, Media and Sports oversees the UK Film Council -- said the council would be eliminated in the interest of “restor[ing] proper accountability for activities funded by public money.” That, in turn, has caused an uproar on both sides of the Atlantic.
