Stephen Colbert will return to host Kennedy Center Honors

Stephen Colbert appears to feel right at home at CBS. The ringleader of “The Late Show” has signed on to host the Kennedy Center Honors, broadcast on CBS, for the third consecutive year.

This year’s recipients include a bevy of musicians, including classical pianist Martha Argerich, gospel-soul dynamo Mavis Staples, singer-songwriter James Taylor, as well as the rock band Eagles.

Rounding out the recipients is actor Al Pacino.

Individuals are recognized by the Kennedy Center’s Board of Trustees for their lifetime contributions to American culture, from the realms of dance, music, theater, opera, motion pictures or television.

This year’s ceremony will take place Dec. 4, with the honorees seated with President and Mrs. Obama as their peers salute them through performances and testimonials.

Colbert first hosted the Kennedy Center Honors in 2014, before joining “The Late Show” in September 2015.

The 39th annual Kennedy Center Honors will be broadcast Dec. 27 at 9 p.m. Pacific time.
