MTV isn’t looking to make a star with its latest unscripted series, it already has one in YouTube star Todrick Hall. Now he’s just going to get paid to do what he loves.
Hall, whose YouTube channel has more than 1.1 million subscribers, will appear in “Todrick,” a series that goes behind the scenes of his YouTube videos. Viewers will get to see how Todrick and his crew of collaborators, many of whom also hold down day jobs, as they write, choreograph and produce a new video every week.
Hall rose to fame when he was a contestant on the ninth season of “American Idol.” Since then, he’s been producing his music videos for YouTube, including “Spell Block Tango,” starring various Disney villains, and “Mary Poppin-Dem-Pills.”
You can watch his “Beauty and the Best” parody, “Beauty and the Beat” above.
The channel also greenlighted a game show, “Broke A$$ Game Show,” hosted by improv performer David Magidoff and stand-up comedian Derek Gaines, which features the hosts roaming the streets of New York, looking for contestants to perform dignity damaging feats to win money.
Both series have been given eight episode orders and will premiere in 2015.
