CicLAvia’s latest cycling-centric event will close streets from Echo Park to East Los Angeles to traffic this fall, opening up new stretches of asphalt to the walking and biking public.
The Oct. 5 event (see the full map here) will also run along Broadway from Ninth Street to Chinatown.
The event is the first by the group to tap into $2.35 million in funding from the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority board of directors to expand CicLAvia-partnered projects in the county.
Next year, the group will bring the city’s signature bike-friendly events into various parts of Los Angeles County, including Pasadena and Culver City, CicLAvia spokesman Robert Gard said.
“Part of our goal is to get people to go into different parts of the county and really connect people to places they haven’t been before,” Gard said. “We want to show them them different communities, different business.”
A Dec. 7 event will be held in South Los Angeles.
