One man was killed and another wounded in a drive-by shooting in Compton, authorities said.
The shooting occurred in the 16100 block of South Essey Avenue about 3:40 p.m. Friday, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Officials said the incident appeared to be “gang related.”
Suspects in a light-colored sedan slowly drove up to the two men standing on the street and fired multiple rounds from the vehicle, according to homicide detectives. Both victims were transported to a local hospital, where one man was pronounced dead.
The second victim was being treated for his injuries.
No suspects were taken into custody. Authorities did not immediately release the identities of the victims.
The shooting took place hours before a clergy-led rally and prayer was set to take place Friday night on the streets of Compton to protest gang violence.
