L.A. County tallies about 1.5 million ballots -- just a 33% turnout

Los Angeles County officials have finished counting all 1,518,835 valid ballots from the Nov. 4 election.
While that may sound like a lot, that number represents just 33.42% of eligible voters, elections officials said Monday. Statewide, turnout was about 42%, according to the secretary of state’s office.
The county Board of Supervisors is scheduled to declare the election results official on Tuesday.
As required by law, every valid ballot was counted, even if the outcome of a race did not change since the election-night tally.
The county featured several races that had been too close to call on election night, including ones for Assembly seats in the San Fernando Valley and the South Bay.
Those seats ultimately were won by challengers, displacing Assemblymen Raul Bocanegra (D-Pacoima), who was defeated by fellow Democrat and activist Patty Lopez, and Al Muratsuchi (D-Torrance), who lost to Republican businessman David Hadley.
