A retired Los Angeles County Fire captain was sentenced Monday to six years in state prison for child sex abuse, prosecutors said.
Edward John Cervantes, 62, of Whittier pleaded no contest Jan. 8 to committing a lewd act upon a child and continuous sexual abuse, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.
Cervantes was immediately taken into custody after he was sentenced in a Pomona courthouse, prosecutors said. Cervantes was also prohibited from contact the victim for 10 years.
Cervantes was arrested Sept. 19 after the victim, a relative of Cervantes, told authorities she had been molested while she was in the fifth and sixth grades. Prosecutors said the acts took place from 2003 to 2005.
