Briefs: Christmas volleyball tourney next week

The Christmas Four-Person Volleyball Tournament will be played Dec. 12 at Main Beach in Laguna Beach.
The annual tournament is a four-person weighted draw and will include a potluck and toy drive. Competition will be held in two divisions, Open and Social, and mixed gender teams are included. Players can sign up individually (teams will be assigned), and are encouraged to bring a dish/drink for the potluck lunch.

Team USA takes two against Aussies
The USA Water Polo Women’s National Team, which includes Laguna Beach residents Makenzie and Aria Fischer, completed its three-game series with Australia Nov. 27 by taking an 8-7 victory before a standing-room-only crowd at Dos Pueblos High in Goleta. Makenzie Fischer scored once in the win.
All three games in the series were decided by an 8-7 score with Team USA winning twice. Team USA won the series opener Nov. 23 before a capacity crowd at the Coogan Family Aquatics Center in La Jolla, and Makenzie Fischer scored once and Aria Fischer had an assist in a Nov. 24 loss at Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos.
Team USA next will play an exhibition game Dec. 13 against the Netherlands at Mira Costa High in Manhattan Beach. The team also will compete at the four-team Holiday Cup Dec. 15-20 at Corona del Mar High.
