Baseball: Nolan Martinez throws one-hitter in Culver City win over Santa Monica

One of the hardest throwers in the Southland is Nolan Martinez of Culver City.
He came through in a big way on Thursday, throwing a one-hitter with seven strikeouts in Culver City’s 3-0 win over Santa Monica in the Ocean League.
Vista Murrieta 3, Murrieta Mesa 2: The Broncos rallied for three runs in the sixth to hand Murrieta Mesa its first loss in the Southwestern League. Murrieta Mesa (20-5, 10-1) and Zac Filos had the Broncos shut out for five innings. Then Joey Hodnapp delivered a two-run triple and Drew Sims followed with an RBI single. Chance Hroch threw a complete game for Vista Murrieta.
Great Oak 6, Temecula Valley 2: Owen Janes had two hits and two RBIs.
Moorpark 4, Westlake 2: Greg Dominguez and Ryan Mitchell each had two hits for the Musketeers.
La Salle 4, Bishop Amat 3: La Salle scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to pull out the Del Rey League win. Sammy Martinez finished two for two.
North 8, Valley View 1: Shane Martinez finished with three hits and three RBIs to lead North. Tony Bullard struck out five and allowed two hits in six innings.
Gahr 6, Paramount 1: Freshman outfielder Xavier Estrada had two hits and two RBIs to help Gahr improve to 6-0 in the San Gabriel Valley League.
Aliso Niguel 1, Dana Hills 0: Senior Ethan Butka threw the shutout.
Harvard-Westlake 4, Crespi 3: The Wolverines got a sweep of the Celts in eight innings. Julian Girod and Leo Kaplan had two hits each.
Banning 5, Carson 3: Anthony Valadez had two hits for the Pilots, who moved two games ahead in the Marine League. Gabe Ruiz pitched the final 2 2/3 innings for the win.
Roosevelt 4, South Gate 3: Kenny Gallegos threw all eight innings in Roosevelt’s Eastern League win. Salvador Zepeda had an RBI double in the eighth.
Sierra Canyon 8, Viewpoint 2: Sophomore Chris Torres threw a complete game, striking out six. Jake Patterson, Michael Croft, Wes Wright and Seth Stone each had two hits.
