Football: Event at Cathedral is called off
- Share via
A football competition featuring 11 on 11 scrimmaging without tackling has been called off for Friday at L.A. Cathedral after concerns the schools might have been violating CIF rules.
Cathedral, Long Beach Poly, Corona Centennial, Narbonne, Hawkins and Loyola were scheduled to compete in three games.
City Section Commissioner John Aguirre confirmed he had conversations with Narbonne and Hawkins. The Southern Section also informed schools that they possibily could be in violation of CIF rules competing as a team before school had ended.
Also complicating the event was that college coaches were not going to be permitted to attend. According to Cathedral Coach Kevin Pearson, multiple college recruiters told him they would not attend because the event had been deemed an “AAU competition.”
