Update: Goaltender Jonathan Quick, whose shootout wins over Calgary on Monday and San Jose on Thursday improved his shootout record to 9-0 this season, is scheduled to start for the Kings. The team’s 90 points after 74 games is tied for third-best in club history and its 42 wins after 74 games ties a record set in 1990-91 and matched last season. Although the Kings gave up a power-play goal on Thursday to end their penalty-killing streak at 35, they’ve killed 37 of their last 38 penalties. Dustin Brown, who scored twice in regulation Thursday, has four goals in his last five games and 25 overall, second only to his 33-goal performance in 2007-08. The Avalanche’s second-half collapse has been monumental. Its only good news lately has come off the ice: former team captain Joe Sakic was appointed an advisor and alternate governor.
