Mitt Romney vs. Barack Obama: How your sports team donated

Just one more thing to add to the eternal divide between Dodgers and Angels fans: Angels owner Arte Moreno has contributed money to Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign, while the Dodgers ownership group has contributed to Barack Obama.

The website WNYC.org has put together a great map that shows to whom and how much money sports team owners around the country have contributed.

From the Dodgers, Magic Johnson, Todd Boehly, Robert Patton and Mark Walter have each contributed $5,000 to Obama. Johnson has contributed an additional $60,800 to the Democratic National Committee, while Boehly, Patton and Walter have each contributed $30,800 to the DNC.

On the other hand, Moreno has given $2,500 to Romney’s campaign and an additional $30,800 to the Republican National Committee. If Romney loses, will it be because Moreno gave $2,500 less to him than Magic did to Obama?

Among other local sports teams, Ed Roski of the Kings donated $5,000 to Tim Pawlenty, whose bid for the Republican presidential nomination ended early, and $2,500 to the RNC.

Susan Samueli of the Ducks has given $2,500 to Obama.

Patrick Soon-Shiong, who owns a small part of the Lakers, donated $2,500 to Rick Perry in his failed bid to capture the Republican nomination.

There are no donations listed for Jerry Buss, or Clippers owner Donald Sterling.

The biggest donor among sports team donors in the four major U.S. sports is Gregory Maffei of the Atlanta Braves, who contributed $5,000 to Romney and $100,000 to Restore our Future, which is a PAC set up to support Romney.
