Poll: Does Tracy McGrady belong in the Hall of Fame?

Tracy McGrady retired from the NBA on Monday after 16 seasons, immediately sparking debate about whether the seven-time All Star belongs in basketball’s Hall of Fame.

The seven-time All-Star was asked that very question on CSN Houston. His answer was pretty much a yes, but he added that it really doesn’t matter.

“I think my numbers match up with some of the guys that are in the Hall of Fame,” McGrady said. “Whether or not I get in or not, it really doesn’t matter to me. I’m a guy from Auburndale, Fla., [with] a population of 10,000 people, grew up in a pretty bad neighborhood, so to me, I’m Hall of Fame just by making it through my career. That’s Hall of Fame to me.”

McGrady led the league in scoring while playing with the Orlando Magic during the 2002-03 (32.1 points) and 2003-04 (28.0) seasons. He’s considered to be one of the top players of his era, although injuries cut into his playing time and productivity during the last several years of his career.

The biggest blemish on McGrady’s résumé is that he has no championship rings. In fact, he had never even won a playoff series until this past season, when he was barely a factor for the Western Conference champion San Antonio Spurs.
