REPORTING FROM MACAO — Manny Pacquiao’s opponent, Chris Algieri, is a bit too cocky for the liking of Freddie Roach, Pacquiao’s trainer.
On Wednesday in Macao, Roach acknowledged that he repeated Pacquiao’s boast to Roach that he was capable of a first-round knockout against the unbeaten New Yorker just to get under Algieri’s skin.
Before what he called his final training session at the Venetian Macao, Algieri said he wasn’t bothered by Roach’s ribbing.
“I didn’t have any [thoughts],” Algieri said. “Freddie’s done quite a bit of talking. ... I don’t have much of an opinion on it because it doesn’t matter what he says is going to happen.
“What matters is what’s going to happen. For me, it’s in and out of my mind. I’ve always been good at, if things don’t matter, I don’t worry about them.”
