The NHL postponed Wednesday’s scheduled game between the Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs at Ottawa following the death of a Canadian soldier in a shooting incident at Parliament Hill in the Canadian capital.
The game was to have been played at the Canadian Tire Center, which is well outside the downtown core. The league said a makeup date will be announced later.
“The National Hockey League wishes to express its sympathy and prayers to all affected by the tragic events in Ottawa,” the league said in a press release.
A soldier on guard at the National War Memorial was shot and killed Wednesday morning. His attacker was killed, according to the CBC and other news sources, but downtown Ottawa was put on lockdown while authorities searched for a possible second gunman.
