USC plays its spring game Saturday. Here is what to watch for on offense.
Quarterback: Cody Kessler returns as a third-year starter. Backup Max Browne could be among the most improved players this spring. Redshirt freshman Jalen Greene’s accuracy improved and midyear enrollee Ricky Town showed flashes of a strong arm.
Offensive line: The line has not changed much in its first spring under new coach Bob Connelly. A few linemen have noticeably trimmed down, including Damien Mama. Third-year sophomore Nico Falah took reps at left tackle and midyear players Chuma Edoga and Roy Hemsley have worked into the rotation.
Tight end: Walk-on Connor Spears took reps with the starters. Jalen Cope-Fitzpatrick was a backup most of spring.
Tailback: Justin Davis has been the go-to tailback as Tre Madden has slowly worked his way to full participation after he was sidelined because of a toe injury last season.
Fullback: Soma Vainuku and Jahleel Pinner had multiple carries this spring because of the tailback shortage.
Receiver: JuJu Smith has been Kessler’s top target. Third-year sophomore Steven Mitchell has had a breakout spring. Isaac Whitney, who transferred from Riverside City College, improved in the final practices.
