Kundu Festival

ECUADOR

Huaorani Territory

The Huaorani people of the Amazon’s headwaters had no outside contact with the world until the 1950s. Recently, with the help of an ecotourism company, the tribe opened the rustic Huaorani Ecolodge. The five-day journey starts with a dugout-canoe trip to the eco-lodge. Other highlights include a flight into the Amazon, hiking with Huaorani guides who demonstrate their traditions, a wildlife-oriented kayak trip and learning about local conservation efforts.

Itinerary: Quito, Ecuador, to Huaorani Territory and back

Dates: Departures available each Monday and Thursday through 2011
