New cruise-like passenger ferry to connect Maine and Nova Scotia

A new passenger ferry will begin plying the Atlantic Ocean route next month between Maine and Nova Scotia, offering passengers a cruise-like experience.
Just in time for the long-awaited arrival of warmer weather, the Nova Star will begin linking Portland, Maine, with Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, on May 15.
The 528-foot vessel will make the 10-hour voyage in style. As on a cruise ship, the ferry will feature a variety of dining choices, including a fine dining restaurant and a buffet. An art gallery, a casino, live entertainment and a spa are among the other on-board offerings.
The ship will depart Portland each evening at 9, arriving in Yarmouth at 8 a.m. local time the following day. The return trip is done in daylight, departing Nova Scotia at 10 a.m. and arriving in Maine at 7 p.m.
Passenger fares vary by date, but begin at $79 one-way for adults and $39 for children 5 to 12. Kids 4 and younger travel free. Assigned recliner seats and private cabins are also available.
Fares for most cars, pickups and SUVs start at $139. Motorcycle rates start at $79.
This year’s last sailing will be Nov. 2.
The ship is midway through a 10,000-mile journey from Singapore, where it was built, to its home port in Yarmouth.
