China: American’s new L.A.-Shanghai flights start at $378 each way

American Airlines kicks off a new nonstop route between Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Shanghai next month -- and with the new route comes a cool introductory fare and extra mileage points for members of the AAdvantage program.
The deal: American Airlines’ new service from LAX to Shanghai starts April 5. Prices each way start at $399 plus tax from April 5 to May 5 and $378 from May 20 to June 17. AAdvantage mileage points are doubled for economy seats and tripled for business or first class for travel April 5 through June 30.
When: Reservations must be made by 9:59 p.m. PDT Monday for travel from April 5 to June 17.
Tested: I went onto the airline’s website and found an April 12-18 round-trip flight for $869, including taxes and fees, for an economy-class seat.
Note: Affiliated American Eagle kicks off nine new domestic routes on April 5 as well. Destinations include Sacramento, Houston, Tucson and other cities. Passengers can earn double miles on those domestic flights for travel through June 30.
