$149 each way from L.A.-Washington, D.C., on Alaska Airlines

Alaska Airlines launched a limited-time sale Wednesday that’s good for anyone who wants to lock in low airfares for a fall or winter vacation.
Depending how far you want to go, fares start at $59 each way to Mammoth and $149 each way to Washington, D.C. -- but only until Monday.
The deal: I like the Explore More, Spend Less sale because it includes flights to smaller cities that sometimes cost a bundle. One-way sale airfares from L.A. include $89 to Portland, $99 to Seattle and $109 to Medford, Eugene and Bend in Oregon and Pasco and Bellingham in Washington state. It includes flights from Burbank too.
The sale also applies to cities in Mexico (Mazatlan and Loreto for $149 each way), but the travel window is short; all travel to and from Mexico must take place between Sept. 5 and Oct. 19.
When: Reservations must be made by 11:59 p.m. Pacific time Monday for travel to most destinations between Sept. 5 and Dec. 12. The fares require a 14-day advance purchase and are subject to availability. Also, blackout dates apply.
Tested: Seats were available at the following sale prices when I checked online Tuesday. Round-trip fare from Los Angeles to Mammoth Lakes, Calif., leaving Dec. 7 and returning Dec. 10 cost $118, and flights from L.A. to Washington, D.C. (Reagan National Airport, DCA) leaving Nov. 7 and returning Nov. 13 cost $298.
