Football: Carson taking control early

Carson sophomore running back Kendell Sparks ran for a 24-yard touchdown to give the Colts a 14-0 lead over Taft with 5:53 left in the second quarter of their City Section Division I semifinal at Carson. Quarterback Justin Alo ran up the middle for a two-point conversion.

Taft hasn’t been able to generate much momentum on offense. Quarterback Michael Bercovici has comleted only three of nine passes for 38 yards.

Crenshaw leads Venice, 21-6, late in the first quarter of the other semifinal.
