Track and field: Harvard-Westlake’s Cami Chapus wins heat in girls’ 1,600

Cami Chapus, a junior from Havard-Westlake, won her preliminary heat in the girls’ 1,600 Friday at the state track meet at Clovis Buchanan High, finishing in 4 minutes 53.69 seconds, to advance to Saturday’s championship race.

Nikki Hiltz, a sophomore from Aptos, posted the fastest time of the day, winning her heat in 4:48.20. Other runners advancing to the championship race from Southern California were Chadwick’s Jaye Buchbinder (4:52.69), Redondo’s Lyndsey Mull (4:53.08), Vista Murrieta’s Erika Reddish (4:53.30), St. Margaret’s Sarah Paddon (4:54.53) and Saugus’ Stephanie Bulder (4:54.94).
