Loyola senior Elias Gedyon won his preliminary heat in the boys’ 1,600 Friday at the state track meet at Clovis Buchanan High, finishing in 4 minutes 10.39 seconds.

That was the exact time Trabuco Hills senior Jantzen Oshier posted in winning his heat. Gedyon held off a late push from Woodside’s Chris Waschura (4:10.44) to win his heat.

Other runners from the Southern Section who advanced to Saturday’s championship were Dana Hills’ Connor Kaddatz (4:11.63), Great Oak’s Karson Fronk (4:12.03) and Rancho Cucamonga’s Luis Gutierez (4:12.23).
