Irvine : Work to Begin Today on Energy-Efficient School
- Share via
Ground breaking for a new “energy-saving” elementary school will be held at 9:30 a.m. today in the Woodbridge Village area of the city.
One of the features of the new school, which is scheduled to be open in 1988, is its design, making use of natural sunlight for heat and lighting, thus cutting energy costs.
The new school site is off Blue Lake South, near Earlymorn.
Officials said the new school’s energy-saving features will include increased northern exposure for added daylight, careful shading of southern glass and walls, and a highly reflective roof surface. Natural light will be used to reduce energy consumption for lighting and cooling, officials said.
