The catamaran of record-breaking French sailor Loic Caradec, leading a transatlantic yacht race, was found capsized in the Atlantic and a French navy ship set off to aid in the search for Caradec.
Caradec, 38, had been leading the transatlantic Route du Rhum race from St. Malo in Brittany to Guadeloupe in the Caribbean when contact with him was lost on Wednesday night.
Organizers hope the navy ship will be able to send a diver to see if Caradec is trapped in either of the catamaran’s hulls, which are equipped with survival compartments.
