Hall of Fame quarterback Bobby Layne’s condition has worsened, according to officials at Methodist Hospital in Lubbock, Tex., where he underwent surgery Saturday to stop hemorrhaging in his lower esophagus.
Layne, 59, who led the Detroit Lions to three NFL championships in the 1950s, was having difficulty breathing Monday night, said Doug Hodel, a hospital spokesman.
