Bell-Jeff 13, St. Genevieve 12--Bell-Jeff won its first game of the season, staving off the Valiants at Birmingham High.
St. Genevieve (1-6, 0-1) scored with 1:28 to play on a 43-yard touchdown pass from Roland De La Maza to Dan Diaz to pull within 13-12, but the Bell-Jeff defense preserved the win by stopping a 2-point conversion attempt. Bell-Jeff linebacker Mike Cesta tackled De La Maza on a run attempt up the middle.
Bell-Jeff (1-6, 1-0) scored its first touchdown on a 3-yard run by Demond Briggs in the first quarter and added a 1-yard scoring run by Earl Matthews in the third quarter to take a 13-6 lead.
