Shapiro’s Mistress Scores Easy Victory

Even-money favorite Shapiro’s Mistress took the lead early and raced to a 7 1/2-length victory Friday in the $98,700 Very Subtle Sales Stakes for 2-year-old fillies at Santa Anita.
Shapiro’s Mistress, carrying 116 pounds, covered the 7 furlongs in 1:22 3/5 and gave jockey Pat Valenzuela his third winner of the day. It was also the first career victory for Shapiro’s Mistress, who had finished second 3 times and third once in 5 previous races.
Endow, a stakes winner at Fairplex Park, and Bold Bryn, who was second in the Norfolk, are among 7 2-year-olds running today in the $100,000, 1-mile B.J. Ridder Stakes at Santa Anita.
On Sunday, Pen Bal Lady, who has won 3 major stakes, is the high weight at 119 pounds for the $100,000 Midwick Handicap, which is a mile on the turf. She faces 9 opponents.
