Snipers poised on a Mexican bluff killed one rafter on the Rio Grande and wounded two others in the second sniping incident along the border in eight months, federal and Texas officials said. A 41-year-old West Texas man was shot in the back and killed as he and his wife, who was shot in the stomach, and a tour guide, who was wounded in the leg, rafted down the Rio Grande about 15 miles southeast of Presidio, Tex., Customs Service spokesman Charles Conroy said. Department of Public Safety spokesman Mike Cox said about 20 to 30 bullets were fired during an hourlong period from Mexico in the ambush. At least four gunmen are being sought as suspects. No injuries or arrests were reported in the earlier sniping incident.
