Duarte : City Gets Air Quality Award
The city has received an award from the South Coast Air Quality Management District for excellence in promoting community action on air-quality issues.
Duarte was praised for requiring all gravel-truck beds to be covered, and for implementing a curb-side recycling program as an alternative to waste-to-energy incinerators.
City vehicles that run on propane, a four-day work week for city employees and a nonsmoking ordinance were also cited as reasons for the award.
