A fire caused by a 1962 Ferrari backfiring through its carburetor destroyed the $150,000 car, damaged a garage in Sherman Oaks and spread to the house, leaving a 72-year-old man with first-degree burns, the Los Angeles City Fire Department reported.
The injured man was burned on his face and hands and suffered smoke inhalation, Fire Department spokesman Jim Wells said. He was treated and released from Encino Hospital, where a spokeswoman identified him as Jerome L. Ciral.
The garage and house, in the 3400 block of Cody Road, sustained about $60,000 in damage, Wells said. The blaze started about 3:40 p.m. and was extinguished about 25 minutes later.
