Pardon me if I blaspheme the icon of the moment, but I’d say Roberts is an expression of how great a vacuum there is in Hollywood (seeking to fill itself).
The given talent of any particular generation does not guarantee a Hepburn, a Tracy or a Davis. It only guarantees that, in the absence of greatness, mediocrity usurps the role.
