Opposition to Prop. 167
I read with disgust about what Prop. 167 entails. How can any politician believe that such a proposition will be advantageous for the residents in California? By raising corporate and business property taxes and increasing the income taxes for the wealthy, how can anyone think that they can keep businesses and business people in California? We have already seen many businesses leave California and relocate in other states due to the increasing cost of operating businesses in California. When we lose businesses, we lose jobs! It is no surprise that we have a higher unemployment rate compared to the rest of the country!
Increasing taxes and other expenses for businesses now will result in change in the wrong direction. Moreover, raising taxes on the higher income groups will shamefully accentuate our already progressive income tax structure. As any free enterprising American knows, any form of progressive taxation leans toward socialism. We are hard-working, free enterprising Americans, not socialists!
