TUSTIN — A California Highway Patrol officer was injured Friday night when his motorcycle crashed on a freeway on-ramp.
Officer Bill Grant, 36, was driving onto the Santa Ana Freeway on-ramp at Red Hill Avenue shortly after 7 p.m. when he lost control on the curve and fell, CHP Cpl. Mike Lundquist said.
Lundquist said Grant was driving below the 55-m.p.h. speed limit when the accident occurred. He said a truck may also have been involved in the accident, which is still under investigation.
The officer was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana with four broken ribs and a broken collarbone.
“He also has a lot of scrapes,” Lundquist said. “He’s hurting but he’s in good spirits. When I talked to him at the hospital, he was real concerned about his motorcycle and his motorcycle helmet.”
